1.11.08 - BAR CHORD HARVEST, a documentary featuring interviews and original music from unsigned bands in St. Louis, Southeast Missouri, and Southern Illinois, is the first project by independent filmmaker Brooks Kohler.

"I just hit the road and turned on the cameras," says Kohler. " I think a lot of people who have a passion to create learn this."

Kohler is an avid fan and supporter of unsigned bands in the Midwest. BAR CHORD HARVEST is his latest and greatest attempt at showcasing rock bands from the Bible Belt - those who normally wouldn't get the exposure.

The film is quite possibly the first of its kind, and could potentially open doors to future projects for Kohler, as well as giving those outside the area a rare glimpse into the lives of independent bands and musicians who hail from the Heartland of America.

"If this works, I’ll definitely make another one; there’s a lot a great music being made around here. People need to hear it."

A wide variety of bands appear in the film, including St. Louis funk rockers Science Hill to rural Southeast Missouri death metal band Butchered.

Revered as one of the greatest bass players in heavy metal history, David Ellefson continues to pump out great new music with several new projects, including the Scottsdale, AZ group F5. With another album on the horizon, David and the band seem geared to turn alot of heads in 2008......

Effective immediately, our consultant 'J Sohn' will be leaving his position with EntertainmentNutz.com and will be joining Banned Promotions full time - in an effort to widely increase material throughout the site, and provide even more interviews and reviews with local bands as well as nationally-recognized acts. J Sohn is a brilliant musical mind and his passion for helping bands is definitely what we were looking for. This also represents a change in things to come at BP, because with his national contacts (as well as Randy's) we will begin to feature more major label acts in interviews and reviews. 9.3.07 - Happy Labor Day! Well, MM2 was a huge success and we at Banned Promotions want to thank everyone involved. The bands did great and the crowd was large - everyone had a blast.

We're gearing up for the next few months, so we've got lots of cool stuff coming up for the site. BANNEDPROMOTIONS.com will be featuring "Scene Slaves", a full week of interviews with some of the greatest local musical personalities. The week is dedicated to those who have been influential in shaping, building, or promoting the local music scene. We'll be posting seven interviews - one per day.

8.31.07 - Well, tomorrow is the big day! Metal Madness 2 at the Main Street Bar in Cape Girardeau! We're all really excited about the show, so if you're anywhere near Cape tomorrow night, please stop in and check out the show. In case you've been under a rock for the past three months, check out the lineup, times, and other cool MM2 stuff here.

Also, we've added yet another new feature to the site. Starting today, we have a nifty new mp3 player (located at the top right-hand corner of the site). We only have about 10 tracks on it now, but hopefully we'll add many more soon. If your band would like to submit a track, email us. MP3's only!

8.22.07 - Starting last year, we dedicated a section of our site to local legends (www.bannedpromotions.com/legends). It was created to be the ultimate list of bands and artists from Southeast Missouri and surrounding areas who have established themselves as a musical icon, or "local legend".

Last year's inaugural local legends were Sheryl Crow, Narvel Felts, Tony Spinner, Billy Swan, Fred Horrell, Bruce Zimmerman, and Brant Hutchcraft.

Starting September 1st, we'll narrow the 2008 nominees down to 10 and the public can then vote on their favorite local legend. You can only vote once. January 1st is when the new legends will be announced.

Criteria for inductees should include the influence and significance of the artist’s contributions to the development and perpetuation of the local music scene, as well as overall success in the music industry. Inductees must have recorded, performed, or actively been involved with music for more than 10 years, and must be from Southeast Missouri or surrounding areas.

We only have 5 nominees so far, so we need 5 more. Please take the time to visit the Legends Page and submit your nominee. Only nominees submitted through the site will be accepted.

6.15.07 - Great news in the Butchered camp. Beginning this summer, the band will be working with Emaciation's own Magnum Brandor to film the first ever Butchered music video! In the meanwhile, we'll be working on the short film, "Defiled Faces", which will feature live tracks, interviews with the band, and behind the scenes footage. Also, we're excited to announce that Butchered may be in the studio with Malcolm Springer soon! 6.15.07 - Update on the compilation cd! We've got nearly 20 bands on board, and we're announcing today that the legendary Brant Hutchcraft will be doing the artwork for the cd! There's still some spots on the cd left, so if your band is interested, let us know ASAP!

6.7.07 - We're kicking around the idea of a Banned Promotions compilation cd,and wondered how many bands would be interested. Of course, there will be a small submission fee, but the cd can be shopped to 100 record labels (solicited) and will be sent to all the radio stations in the region, as well as a bunch of record stores. 6.7.07 - "Track of the Week" is back by popular demand! Currently, we don't have one for next week, so if you're interested, email us your track and we'll feature it on the home page. Also, we're taking it one step further - we'll also be doing a Video of the Week! 6.6.07 - Also, we announced last week that we will begin working on a full-length DVD for the band Butchered. Starting in June, BP will follow the band and capture live footage at shows, we'll interview the band, and also have some 'behind the scenes' footage. This will be the debut film for Banned Promotions, so hopefully it goes well and we'll be able to do more videos & films for other bands in the future. Keep posted to the website for a trailer for "BUTCHERED, Defiled Faces"......
